So Monday we did nothing haha. tried to sleep.  TUES, i got my package! thanks again for that! i did get one letter from kirsi martin, if you could thank her and tell her i will be writing her back soon. Then we talked to the Tineo family, they are so awesome, always make me feel awesome. We also taught a less active lady and we helped her remember how she felt when she was baptized and then she said she was going to try to start going to church again! awesome! Then Wed, i hit 6 months in the mission! can you believe it! 1fourth of the way done haha. Then we tried to talk to some investigators, but they were all busy, a little frustrating, then there was supposed to be 2 activities today but they both fell through. so... not a super successful day, but thats all good. Just keep trying!  Thurs, i learned something cool about prayers. As we are finishing our prayers we should take time to pause and just listen because a prayer is a 2 way communication and many times we can receive revelation in that little amount of time. Cool! I never thought of that! Then we taught an investigator who is divorced and her husband came to check on the kids and well stuff happened, so she was super sad. But we helped her show how the gospel can help her through rough times, and she said she was going to go to church but she didnt. Maybe next week though! Then we visisted another mom, whose sons aren't very good people and she is really sad. She wants to change her life and be happy with her family.  I really think that she will progress and her daughter too! awesome! Then after we had a bday party for a member! super fun haha.  Fri. we had a lesson with a family whose girls are the only members and we brought along our pensionista and her husband, they did most of the talking about their conversion stories and stuff, the spirit was incredible. The mom wants to get baptized but the dad says that he will get baptized later.... ya well. We will keep working with them!. It was really cool to hear the stories of our pension though.  Sat, we did service for our pension. We shined up some tables and chairs and then cleaned some windows, then my comp broke their faucet so he spent the next 2 hours or so, after lunch, trying to fix it. ugh.... haha. while i did nothing. Then he chatted with them for about another hour our so. ya, Then later we taught the ward missionaries how they can help us and the work! and bought a pizza! an actual pizza! and it was delicious haha. Sun, I got the privilege to bless the sacrament, I was a little nervous though. There wasnt a microphone.. but ya i did it! haha. Then after lunch we were talking with hna. isabel who had to work after church at a gas station. and a combi, or van, pulled up and needed air in a tire. anyway they put too much in it and it exploded... no one was hurt, (the van was full). but it took me by surprise haha. It was super loud. Then later we talked about taking the name of Christ upon us. When it says that in the sacrament prayer and how the church is "the name of Christ" too. So we need to help build the church the best we can! members, less active, or nonmembers! Sorta cool to think about it like that. I love all of you and hope that you all have a stupendous proxima semana!!!!! love ya!

Ok so Monday we played soccer as a zone. Pretty fun. That was it for that day though. haha. Then Tues, we had our zone mtg and i got a letter from gma ELrAE. I need to thank her for that. Anyway we had a little class about listening to people and also that we need to bear testimony often, I really liked the saying of one elder who said, that during moments of silence during a lesson is when the spirit talks. We learned not to be afraid of silence, really liked it, the spirit was there. I love the spirit, it makes you so happy! haha. Then we visited a family and talked a little about the second coming and how we need to ask ourselves often the following question, would I be ready to meet the Savior right now if He came? If not what do I need to change? Sometimes we get caught up in the worldy things and our physical well being when sometimes we should be more worried about our spiritual well being. Then we made some salchipapas haha. Which is hot dog with french fries haha. Oh and I got the last 3 months of liahonas in english!! wahooo! I was so happy. Then Wednesday, first of all we got to go eat at a restaurant for lunch, delicious.  Then we taught an investigator named Ulga and a less active named Julia Matos. We started to teach about the plan of salvation (because Ulga is pregnant) and during the lesson I was prompted to talk about baptism, even though it was a little off topic. And the words just came. We didnt set a baptism date or anything but I knew that, that was what I was supposed to talk about. I love being a missionary haha. The rest of the day I was just super happy. haha . Then Thurs. we had interviews with the president. He congratulated me on my improvement with Spanish and said he was amazed with how far I have come in the last 3 months. President Ardila is awesome. Then we visited our investigator named Rosa, who got baptized Saturday!. Then Fri. we had a little activity at the church, noche de pelicula. We watched a couple videos on the life of Christ, for this Easter season, and it went way well. We had 68 people come! And some people we had never met before! The spirit was there and was a big success! Oh, so quick funny experience. We had to go pick up a zone leader to give Rosa her interview, and on the way back there was this guy in the back seat with us with a dog in his bag. Anyway the dog had to use the bathroom and did so in the guys bag. The smell was terrible. haha. And also before that we accidently left a bag of supplies for the movie night. So we said some personal prayers and when we went back it was still there! The Lord is always listening. Always!  So then Sat, we had the baptism which took all day long because it was in Campoy and a ton of driving. But all went really well, first one in her family to get baptized and her brother and sisters came to the baptism! Awesome! Then Sun, Easter morning. I woke up and found the egg rock that my comp hid for me. haha. To remember home a little bit. To keep the tradition going even in Peru! And then we went to church and found out that we had to give the talks 2 mins before.... uhhhhhh. But ya I talked about a talk given by Uctdorf in the April Liahona about anchors and how the anchor keeps the boat of our lives in a good place even when the wind and waves, or temptations and worldly things, move us around a little. Great talk by him. Then we walked and walked and walked. No one was home. We taught one lesson, at night to a family whose kids are members but not the parents. We took along the husband of our pensionista and he shared his conversion story with the mom. It was just what she needed. She wants to be baptized but wants her husband’s support. So now we need to teach him! haha. But ya, it was cool to hear his whole story and how the gospel changed his life. Well thanks mom for the emails! HAPPY EASTER!! even though it past and HAPPY BDAY KAYLA AND BRYNNA! haha. I love you all! Hope you have a wonderful next week!

A little storage room in the church in Jicamarca

ok so to answer your questions.. Yes so my area is land of the dirt. A ton of dirt and dust. We live in this little complex type thing. t\The room is nice. There are like 3 other people who live in the same area thing. i will have to take pics so that you can understand haha. The new pensionista lives across the street. She is super nice. Normally the food is all ready for us when we get there. We live with 2 other missionaries. elder child and llave. elder llave is new from the mtc. elder child has 7 months. but he is super strict with all the rules. We dont talk a whole lot during the day, but ya we have our laughs. I email you in an internet cafe in Campoy. My zone, about an hour from Jicamarca, my area. haha. ya we have water. so thats good. its really actually nice, our room.
So p day last week we went about visiting all the families that i would miss. So sad.... but that’s just the mission life right? So then Tues, we had transfers and first day in Jicamarca! And yes there is a ton of dirt again. But i love it. The people are the greatest i already feel like family here. My companion is elder Ochoa from Ecuador. He is a little strange.... he said that before his mission he was an emo and that he like dead things and the color black... yaaaa. But it’s all good.  We went to talk to some less actives and he started to bite his back pack strap that was on his lap, without using his hands if that makes sense. Sort of bending over and biting it… weird and then he likes to close his eyes when he talks. But he’s cool. i mean we get along which is nice. This will all be interesting though. haha. So then Wednesday, we walked a ton. If you have looked at my area on google u can probably tell. The main part is just a giant hill haha. Up down up down. And the sun is super bright and really hot. haha. We met some families, less actives, investigators. I’m still working on all the names though because Spanish names are a little strange sometimes. i talk a lot more than i did in Chosica which is good because i need the practice. i just need to learn more vocab that’s all haha. Then Thursday we had our zone mtg in Campoy and we have to get there in these small little vans that have a roof that is like 5 and a half feet and sometimes you have to stand. Really uncomfortable. haha. Our zone seems awesome. The zone leaders are elder McGregor and elder Dennis. elder Dennis actually sat next to me in my math class at Riverton when i was a sophomore. He was a senior or junior, and now he has like 22 months in the mission. What a coincidence haha. They are both awesome. 2 gringos or North Americans for zone leaders. awesome. Then we visited some more people, i found out that elder Cuadra who was in Chosica with me the whole time that i was there. Always was happy and greeted me with a smile and said, elder Maxwell  HOW ARE YOU haha. Anyway, he got sent home. Apparently he left his comp (he was supposed to be in my new zone again here in Campoy) and went back to Chosica alone. i don’t know why but. ya. That is a big no no and he had the choice to change missions or go home and he chose to go home. So sad, he was so cool. Always happy. Satan can always get the best of us though. We always need to be careful. Then Friday, we had a good lunch! It’s called lomo saltado. French fries, meat and rice, delicious. Then after i had to use the bathroom 6 times.. Those siempres! haha. But we still talked with some people. Helped a family of 3 sisters get over a fight they had. Then they gave me a sucker haha. But that was the whole day haha.  Sat, i rode in one of those vans again, and hit my head on the ceiling, smacked my chin on the seat in front of me, then hit my head on the window, and then tripped and fell as i was getting out...  ughhhhhh haha, that was fun. Then we talked with some members, continued to help with the problem with the sisters, then we taught an investigator named Nancy, 22, about prayer and we talked for an hour and i talked for half the time! Sweet! A lot better! haha. Then Sunday, we had church. it is in a house chapel thing. I’ll have to take pictures. It’s small but awesome haha. A lot of background noise. Then we ate with a member lady who had pigs. It smelled absolutely terrible. And i gagged all the food down... ugh ,me and food. But i did it! haha. Then we visited a less active whose wife left him and has 2 kids, works a ton but still tries to read the scriptures and pray every day. So sad. He started to cry after the closing prayer. i felt so bad for him. Then we just visited some more families. Getting to know everyone and that’s it! Thanks for the email! i hope you all have a spectacular next week! Love you all!

TRANSFERS??!! EMAIL 4/7/2014

So on p day, Monday, we just played some soccer, but i did score two goals against Latinos! haha. Oh I forgot to tell you last week but i have been sick for the past like 5 ish days. i am actually still a little sick today. So more like a week and a half, but its all good, cold like symptoms, and bad cough. But i keep movin forward and working hard!  Tuesday, elder mauldwin got a call in the morning that he is going to be the health secretary for the mission, and that he had to leave that very day in a couple of hours, so that was a little bummer. i was a bit sad, he helped me with a ton. But its all good. Elder Espinal came in his place, he’s from Honduras. So then we went and found a new investigator named Nancy, 16 yrs old. She looks promising even though i wont be there teaching her but thats ok!.  Wednesday, we helped Elder Espinal and Gonzales change rooms and pensionista, it took all day long becuase we had to move all of the furniture and everything. Then at night we had fhe with jessenia and carlos with some members. i gave the lesson and i was a bit nervous because i found out that i was teaching it like 10 min beforehand, but i did great! i was just guided to what to say. Thoughts just kept coming to my head. Awesome!.  Thursday, we talked to some member families and talked to an investigator named Roxana. 15. She learns a little slow so it will take a while for her to progress towards baptism but she had liked what she has heard so far.  Then Friday we went to this place called San Mateo Otao to get some paperwork for some other missionaries. They needed something for a wedding that they were having and the paper was there in San Mateo Otao. So basically its like a 2 and a half hour drive up a mountain. Absolutely beautiful, tiny little town on top of a mountain. haha. and then we drove back down. It took all day long. A ton of driving in a little bus, i got a bad headache haha. Then Saturday, we had the priesthood session which was awesome! Even though it was in Spanish and i couldnt understand it all completely, i still loved it! So to explain a little, we couldnt go to the other sessions unless we took an investigator, stupid rule of our zone leaders, so we couldnt go because everyone was at work or school. i was angry, i was really looking forward to watching all of them but oh well. We do what we are told. i really liked how the priesthood session was centered on serving others and how we should look for those little service opportunities every day. Also Pres Monson talked about having the courage to do the right thing, to always be obedient. i really liked that. He also said, are we the people who our Heavenly father wants us to be, and are we the people that we know that we should be? Sometimes we need to stop and ask ourselves that question and find ways to better ourselves every day. Everyday try a little harder to be a little better. So Sunday, the one session of conference was good. i liked Uctdorfs talk about being grateful even during hard times. It is true that a lot of the time we look at the bad things instead of all the good that is happening. So then we had pachamancha with the Rojas family. Delicious, and then we talked to our investigator David for like 2 and a half hours on Joseph Smith and the book of mormon, he is going to pray about it and if he gets an answer will be baptized in 2 weeks! Awesome! Well thanks for emailing me! i love all of you with all my heart! Have a fantastic week!
